Musical Theatre of the 21st century breaks the boundaries of traditional musical theatre, but before breaking traditions we must first learn from them. In the spring semester of 2020, Crossing the Chorus Line participants will be challenged with both traditional musical theatre and its 21st century counterpart. This semester participants will be rehearsing material from two contrasting musicals from Broadway’s 2018-2019 season: Sklar & Beguelin’s The Prom (Nominated for Best Musical) and the Cole Porter Classic: Kiss, Me Kate (Nominated for Best Revival). In preparing both material from Kiss Me Kate and The Prom, students will have the opportunity to experience and appreciate in real time the differences and similarities of the ever-changing genre of musical theatre. Using these musicals as training vehicles, participants will rehearse ensemble numbers as well as solo, duet and small group vocal selections. (Material subject to change based on class experience, size, and ability.)
