Opening the MMAS 2022 season is a new work by Ernest Thompson, Academy Award winner for Best Adapted Screenplay, On Golden Pond. Ask/Answer is a love story between two strangers who discover all is not lost, even in the midst of a mutual cancer journey.

Ask/Answer explores the hope, humor, and humanity that thrives within all of us, despite our deepest fears and our most challenging experiences. Ask/Answer features Ernest Thompson (Ryle) and Pamela Lambert (Lisa).

Thursday, Jan. 20, at 8pm will be a benefit for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, named after the former Patriots player who had his own cancer journey. Click for more information and tickets to that evening, which will feature Ask/Answer, followed by a Q&A with Ernest Thompson, Pamela Lambert and Jen & Joe Andruzzi.

Thompson and Lambert additionally take on the play’s supporting characters, people we also know, the complicated, outrageous, sometimes hilarious, sometimes maddening mortals who lie in wait like trolls under the bridges of our journeys.

Ask/Answer resonates with resilience, grace, courage, forgiveness and most essentially, hope. Mr. Thompson and Ms. Lambert will lead talkbacks following each performance.

The “Art for Hope” exhibition opens alongside Thompson’s play.  Artwork will be featured throughout the gallery adjacent to the theatre. Forty percent of all sold work will benefit the Joe Andruzzi Foundation. 

Thompson has won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a Writers Guild Award and a Broadway Drama Guild Award for Best Play. His work has been nominated for a Tony, an Emmy and a British Academy Award. His more than 35 plays have been seen in theatres around the world. The most enduring, “On Golden Pond,” has been translated into 30 languages, Arabic the newest, and played in more than 40 countries on six continents.

At his farm in rural New Hampshire, Ernest conducts his internationally renowned “Write On Golden Pond” workshops for writers of all levels of experience and offers private coaching to actors and public speakers as well as one-on-one script analysis.

Thompson’s other plays have included: Among other plays are “The West Side Waltz,” “A Sense Of Humor,” “Ax Of Love,” “Amazons In August,” “Murdering Mother,” “White People Christmas,” “The Elixir,” and “Human Beings.”

Besides “On Golden Pond,” Thompson’s films have included: “Sweet Hearts Dance,” “The Lies Boys Tell,” “1969,” “The West Side Waltz,” “Out Of Time,” “Time And Charges,” and “Heavenly Angle.”
