A note from Libby!
Good Evening Everyone!
I find myself extremely honored to be receiving the very first MMAS Volunteer award. I am grateful to the Board of Directors for the recognition I have received, and on behalf of everyone that has volunteered their time over the years, thank you.
I would also like to thank my family, my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. You have all kept me so very young and you have always supported my passion for the arts and my continual commitment to MMAS. I love you all.
And I would like to thank my “other” family, MMAS. I have seen many of you grow over the years and your devotion to the roles you all play and songs you all sing has made my volunteering, not work, but a great deal of fun. Thank you all for keeping an old dame relevant and a part of each and every performance. And a special thank you to Ken and Glenn, for everything you have done and everything you do for me.
I am reminded of a quote I once read. “Community theatre depends on its friends and neighbors to take the role of: actors, producers, directors, set builders and stagehands, as well as the audience. It is a collaborative effort. All who take part are volunteers with a love of theater. We are compensated for our efforts with lots of laughter, good and dear friends and a sense of giving back to the community.”
Thank you and God Bless.

Volunteers
MMAS has three employees; two are part time, yet we are able to produce 8-10 plays every season, 8-10 art exhibits, stage monthly Open Mic nights and several Back Stage concerts. We can do this because of the unstinting help of volunteers.
MMAS can always use volunteers in the following areas:
- Office help; we do postcard mailings every month to more than 4100 patrons. Volunteers do the labeling and sorting.
- Box Office and ushers for every performance
- Concession area: in addition to working the box office and acting as ushers, volunteers man the concession area for every Black Box Theater event.
- Set building and painting; even if you don’t know how to build or paint, we will teach you! As soon as one play ends, the set is immediately taken down and the building of the next set begins.
- Other areas include cleaning the gallery and theater, helping out at the annual arts festival and helping plan the anniversary gala event.
If you are interested in helping, please contact us. Any amount of time given is a big help to us. Last year, volunteers gave more than 16,000 hours to MMAS!
Volunteers who give more than 16 hours to MMAS are invited to attend (complimentary) a special dress rehearsal performance of each play in the Black Box Theater.
