Every year, the three Dumouchel children—Lauren, Nicholas and Caitlin – ask family and friends to give money to a selected charity instead of receiving birthday gifts. Each year, the three choose a different local charity to support. This time it was the MMAS Black Box Theater in Mansfield. They presented $460 to Executive Director Ken Butler, who gratefully acknowledged the youths’ generosity. “This is great; to see young people wanting to support the local theater. They are our future artists and performers. And they truly are a role model for giving back — to people of any age.”

The Mansfield Art AssociationThe Mansfield Art Association

The Mansfield Art Association will meet the third Tuesday night of every month from 6–8 pm beginning March 16. The meetings will be held at MMAS, now located at 377 North Main Street, Mansfield.

Dues will be $25/year for adults and $15/year for students and senior citizens. The association is open to both artists and non-artists, from high school students to senior citizens. Each meeting will be a presentation, art demonstration, open critique, or interactive demonstration. The first meeting will most likely be an interactive demonstration but is not yet determined.

The first meeting is free and open to the public and does not require membership. Subsequent meetings will be free to members, $5 for non-members. We hope to see you there!

]]> Black Box TheaterOur membership has grown to well over four hundred individuals, representing over forty area towns and every state in New England.

MMAS provides a platform from which fine and performing artists may hone their skills through presentation and continuing education. We host the annual Southern Mass Arts Festival, at which artists from all over New England have the opportunity to make their works known to the public. Between eight and ten theatrical productions are staged every season in our Black Box Theater, offering local playwrights the chance to have their works performed, and giving area actors, dancers and singers the ability to exercise their talents on our stages. By offering fine and performing arts education to regional children, teens, adults and seniors, MMAS reaches across generational lines to provide a safe environment in which all may explore their talents. We recently renovated the theater and opened the Morini Art Gallery for emerging artists to display their works.
