A Nice Family Gathering

NERC presents A Nice Family Gathering, a comedy about a man who loved his wife so much, he almost told her. It’s Thanksgiving Day and the first family gathering at the Lundeen household since Dad died. At the gathering, Dad comes back as a ghost with a mission: to tell his wife of 35 years that he loved her, something he neglected to tell her while he was alive. The problem is, she can’t hear or see him. The trouble begins when Mom invites a date for dinner.

The Last Days of Judas Iscariot

NERC presents a new play by Stephen Adly Guirgis – a compelling and complex look at the conflict between divine love and the existence of free will. Set in Downtown Purgatory, a time bending world where troubled souls wait to be permanently assigned to either Heaven or Hell, Judas Iscariot stands trial for committing the world’s most infamous betrayal. As some famous saints and sinners take the witness stand, a feisty defense attorney desperately tries to spare her client the sentence of eternal damnation. Guirgis’ play is a moving and soul-searching look at the consequences of choice, faith, guilt, and redemption.

Cabaret

Cabaret is a musical with a book by Joe Masteroff, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Set in 1931 Berlin as the Nazis rise to power, it focuses on nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub revolving around the 19 year-old English cabaret performer Sally Bowles and her relationship with young American writer Cliff Bradshaw.

 Hollywood Arms

Written by comedian Carol Burnett and her daughter Carrie Hamilton, Hollywood Arms is a dramedy set in Hollywood in 1941 and 1951, and centers on the heartbreak and laughter generations of women living on welfare in a dingy apartment house. The cast of characters is based on Carol Burnett and her real-life relatives.

Dead Giveaway

The setting is the living room of a boarded-up hunting lodge in rural Ohio, the secret hideaway of a prominent U.S. Senator. A young couple, on the run after having accidentally killed a gas station attendant during a robbery, break into the lodge to hide out — only to be discovered by the Senator when he arrives for a surreptitious tryst with another man’s wife . The play is a clever and ingeniously crafted study in suspense by two masters of the genre. Presented by NERC.

A Chorus Line

A Chorus Line is the 1975 musical about Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line. The book was authored by James Kirkwood, Jr. and Nicholas Dante, lyrics were written by Edward Kleban, and music was composed by Marvin Hamlisch.

 The Pirates of Penzance

This witty musical comedy is set in motion when a hard-of-hearing nurse mistakenly apprentices the orphan Frederic to pirates instead of pilots. With the arrival of his twenty-first birthday, he takes leave of his lovable pirate brothers. Despite his affection for the group, he feels compelled to bring them to justice. Added to the mix is, as the lyrics suggest, the “very model of a modern Major-General,” his beautiful daughters, and an entourage of valiant but timid policemen.
